Our Favorite Beach & Surf Gear

Some of our favorite gear to make a day on the water as fun and relaxing as possible.

Consider purchasing some of these items and bringing them along on your next trip to the Outer Banks.

  • Brooklinen Beach Towels

It is hard to find a more luxurious-feeling beach towel. These beach towels from Brooklinen are worth the premium price, with maxed-out softness and absorbency. Whenever we head to the beach, sound or pool, these are the towels we grab first.

  • Neso Tents

The Neso beach tents offer a great way to spend the day at the beach with family and friends. Constructed from a Lycra/Nylon blend, they are water resistant and provide UPF 50+ sun protection. And, at only 6.5 lbs (Grande size), they are so easy to carry and set up. We have a Grande with extra aluminum poles, and we rarely head to the beach without it.

  • Aloha Beach Totes

Aloha bags are made from technical fabric that is lightweight, packable, splash-proof, and easy to clean. We love our Day Tripper tote, which is a bestseller for a reason—its versatility! This do-anything, go-anywhere bag will keep your stuff protected against splashes, spills, and weather. If you’re looking for the best beach bag around, the Day Tripper can’t be beat.

  • La Roche-Posay Sunscreen

This is our go-to sunscreen for face and body, with broad spectrum SPF 60 UVA/UVB protection. We love the non-greasy, fast-absorbing texture of this sunscreen, which is also great for sensitive skin. Plus, it is paraben free and oxybenzone free.

  • Yeti Coolers

Yeti coolers have become popular for a reason: they work! Yeti hard and soft coolers have excellent temperature control and can maintain temperature for an incredibly long time. We have a Hopper Flip 12 soft cooler, which fits up to 24 cans or up to 16 lbs of ice. We think its the perfect size to fit everything needed for a day at the beach.

  • Morey Bodyboards

Established by the father of bodyboard Thomas Hugh Morey in 1971, Morey Bodyboards is an iconic bodyboard company that literally invented the sport. Morey’s MACH 7 The MACH 7 is the most iconic and recognizable board in the world. We purchased our MACH 7 at the 17 St Surf Shop several decades ago—and it is still going strong!

  • Kubb Game

One of our new favorite games to play on the beach, Kubb (Swedish pronunciation: [kɵbː]) is a Swedish game with characteristics similar to games like bowling. The word kubb stems from the term vedkubbar, which means wooden block in the Gotland dialect of Swedish. Playing a game of kubb requires both skill and precision, but also a strategic mindset!

  • Tommy Bahama Beach Chairs

Kick back and bring out the refreshing libations, because it's time to relax like never before. Tommy Bahama beach chairs raise the bar on what it means to lounge by the shore. The collapsible design and pouch on the side amplify its versatility, so you can always sit in the best seat in paradise.

  • JBL Portable Speakers

The JBL Flip 6 is a prime example of a Bluetooth speaker that sticks to the basics, and gets it right. This rugged portable speaker is super simple to use and sounds good. A 12-hour battery life and water and dustproofing makes this an ideal speaker to take to the pool or beach.
