Jockey's Ridge State Park
The tallest living sand dune on the Atlantic coast is a premier location for kites, sightseeing and sunsets, with a view arching from the ocean to the Roanoke Sound. Includes a visitor center and museum.

Jennette's Pier
Anglers of all experience levels can enjoy some of the best fishing on the East Coast from this state of the art, concrete fishing pier. Fishers can rent equipment and supplies. Includes a small aquarium.

Fanciful and elaborate gardens were designed to entertain Queen Elizabeth I during her reign. This garden was created for your enjoyment as a living memorial to the lost colonists.

Nags Head Woods Preserve
A project of the Nature Conservancy in North Carolina, the preserve protects one of the largest remaining maritime forests on the East Coast. It features miles of hiking trails and diverse wildlife.

Alligator River National Wildlife Preserve
Home to incredible wildlife such as red wolves, American alligators and black bears. The refuge includes great paddling trails, a wildlife drive and two wildlife trails. Includes a Visitor Center.

Coquina Beach
Looking for a less crowded beach? Coquina Beach is located 8 miles south of Nags Head. The beach is completely free of commercial development, includes restrooms/showers, and is staffed by lifeguards.

Farmer's markets are held at Dowdy Park in Nags Head from mid-June through early August (after school is out for the summer and before students return to school in the fall) and in November and early-to-mid December.
